CD Covers for the Digipak

Front Cover

First Draft

This is the first draft of our CD cover which we produced using the programme Fireworks. After showing our video to teachers and friends, feedback we received told us that this was the preferred shot as it is framed well. The text is comic sans ms and we haven’t added any effects to the picture. After creating it we realised we liked the idea of the contrasting white and black text on the picture. That is placed around the framed shot of Lucy. Our problem with this cover is that the picture is to dark and makes it look dull so we decided to add some effects.

Second Draft

After deciding the picture was dull we added some effects to brighten it up using fireworks, we changed the contrast to 30 and the brightness to 33 and this is the result of the picture, we are very pleased with it as we believe it looks more professional. But we still have a problem with the text as we believe it isn’t very eye catching for the audience.
Draft Three

After trying our various text fonts on fireworks, we decided to look on the internet for a better font to make our cover look more professional. We some this font called 'Waiting for the sunrise' on a website called 'dafont.com' after we tested our text with it we decided this was the text for us, but due to the fact to cannot download fonts at college I had to wait till I got home in order to upload it to fireworks. After putting it on we kept with the ideas of the colours and decided it looked more professional then our first draft.
The End Result

After going through the various changes we have decided this is the cover we liked we believe the location of the shot is effective as it fits with the style of music as it is laid back easy listening pop music, and the location of the grassy area being quite bright helps to reflect that. Another reason we believe the shot fits well for the cover is that the album is called unwritten and the protagonist is writing in a book. The costume is effective as it also shows the type of music is it so anyone who picks up the CD will be expecting easy listening laid back music as that is what the picture connotes. We also realised that through the various changes we have spelt the word "Natasha' wrong and made sure our final one was spelt correctly.

Insert Cover Shot One

Draft One

This was our first draft as you can see the shot isn't well framed as well as being dull and boring, we realised we needed to move it we wanted to improve the standard of the cover. We decided to use this shot as we thought it would fit the same theme as our front and back covers and it is also our establishing shot.

Draft Two

We moved the shot across and made it slightly bigger and we are quite happy with it as the path leads down from the middle and it makes the shot well framed. We realised we didn’t need to add any text as is it the back of the Cd cover. But have decided to edit it to brighten it up for our end result to make it look fit in with the brightness of the front and back.

Draft Three

We are quite happy with this shot as it is now brighter and looks likes it's meant to be an insert for a Pop CD. We believe it fits with the rest of the CD but have realised it's quite plain so our going to play around with more effects to see what we can do to improve it.

The End Result

We have made it even brighter then the third draft and added a subtle shadow effect around the edges. We have added the initials N.B and a lover heart in a hand writing style of font. We are pleased with this end result, it has gone through several drafts but with every charge we have improved it greatly and our happy for this to go into our Digipak as the back of the booklet.

Insert Cover Shot Two

Draft One

This was our initial idea for the insert in which the CD gets placed on. We used the 'From my heart flow' shots and added a pink border around it after making this we realised that the shots weren’t very good and this insert wasn’t a up to a very good standard. So we decided to come up with a completely different idea.
Draft Two

We decided to make the love heart shot better by using drawing love hearts and placing them into the shape we made it pink to connote romance. We used the initials like we did for the previous insert shot but made it pink and we used the album title in the same way and put it at the bottom, we didn’t really like this either so we decided to come up with a new idea for it.

Draft Three

We found a text spiralling generator on the internet and used it to type each song title out three times to make a big circle in which the CD will be placed on. We also came up with the idea to do this as if we made the actual CD it would be the same as the CD insert so when it was lifted the same print would remain in he case, by doing this it would make our CD and insert quite affective as a lot of CD covers we have looked at do similar things. After making this we thought that it looked a bit to plain, so for the end result we will add a boarder but haven’t yet decided on the colour.

The End Result

The end result is quite pleasing as now that we have added the boarder it looks more professional. The black and the white contrast work well together. We decided to use white for the background instead of a bright colour as out initial thoughts of using pink meant that it would be associated with a younger target audience then we wanted. As bright pink is usually associated with young girls, we didn’t want and believe that the white was more effective.

Back Cover
Draft One

This is our first draft we didn’t like this as it was too dark so we needed to add effects like we did with the front cover. We put the song titles in the middle in a list with the numbers in a different colour, we released we will have to re-arrange these as we need to add the barcode and music label logos.
Draft Three

We flipped the picture as we wanted the song titles in the left corner as we believed it wouldn’t look right on the right hand side, we put them together at the top to have room for the barcode we release we still need to make the picture brighter.

The End Result

We like our finished product as it looks more professional now that we have added the barcode the actual music labels that this album or Natasha Bedingfield was on and even included the copy right bit at the bottom of the CD. We have edited the brightness and contrast effect so now it fully fits in with the rest of the Digipak we are very pleased with this product and now that we have finished this we can hand it in ready for the deadline.
