New Ideas for music video

After speaking to our teacher and showing him our progress so far, he told us that we need to add a few more bits to our video in order to gain a higher grade as at the moment it is mostly performance. After a group decision we decided to do a spider diagram based on our ideas.

We have decided that we might do some filming in the park around the corner from college to add some more narrative into the video and take away some of the performance.

Instead of using performance footage for the part of the song in which she talks about reading from different poets (Byron, Shelly and Keats), we decided to print off a poem by each poet on a separate piece of paper and film each one as it says the name of the poet.

As the song says "I’m getting off my stage, the curtains pull away" we are going to film the protagonist storming off the stage and coming from behind the curtains. As she is still on the stage we are going to film her singing, when it goes to the "woahh oh oahhh..." part, the protagonist is going to perform and then fall to the floor of the stage in anger as she has now given up. It will then fade to black.

As the song says "I know I had some studio time booked", we are going to film in the music recording studio at college, filming the protagonist behind a microphone. When it mentions drum machine we are going to film the protagonist sat at the drums looking frustrated. Throughout this scene the protagonist will be in a stressful mood.
For the part of the chorus that says "from my heart flow" we decided to cut heart shapes of various sizes out of pink paper. We have then decided that we are going to position them into a heart shape and then have them blown away when it says flow. We are going to repeat this is each chorus.

Research for Print Based Items (CD Cover)

As well as making and researching for our music video, we also have the task of designing and creating a CD cover and a Magazine Advertisement. The CD covers we have looked at for our research are Natasha Bedingfield, Natalie Imbruglia and Dido the reason we have chosen these artists is because they are very similar to our chosen Pop genre, so looking at these three covers will gives us ideas on how to make our Cd cover both front and back as realistic as possible.

Cd Cover One (Front)

We have chosen this CD cover as Natasha Bedingfield is our chosen artist and the album Unwritten is where our chosen song is taken from. This Cd cover is very simplistic with minimal features. The shot is of Bedingfield looking straight at the camera with natural lighting showing her and little bit of background that we see whilst having shadow on the other side of her. The background is also very simple as it is a patterned wall isn’t very interesting and could be seen in many places. The text is a large font that goes across the front cover and is using the colour black for the album title and white for the artist name. The shot of Natasha Bedingfiled seems to be a natural relaxed pose as she is not dressed up but instead wearing a white top, with minimal makeup and is just resting her arms on her legs in a type of curled up pose.
CD Cover One (Back)
The back cover still keeps in style with the front cover as is it very simple, here we have a long shot of Bedingfield lay across a wooden floor in a white maxi dress. The stance here is less relaxed then the first as she is looking straight into the camera and doing a pose. Natural lighting still looks like it has been used here as she is in light whilst there is shadow behind her. The text is quite small at the top but because of its colour it helps to contrast the black behind it effectively and make it eye catching. The bar code with the music logos and the text are sectioned so the big picture is what the audience is drawn to at first glance.

CD Cover Two (Front)

The second CD cover we have chosen to look at is Natalie Imbruglia's album cover Left Of The Middle. We have chosen this particular artist as she is very similar to Natasha Bedingfiled. We researched Natalie Imbruglia’s video Torn which gave us many ideas for our music video and this is the album that this came from. Here the writing is very small but stands out as it contrast the blue cloudy sky behind it. The background can be seen more here than the first CD cover as Imbruglia is stood staring straight at the camera with a pose that doesn’t look natural or relaxed as she is stood up straight. She is wearing a coat which is good as she is keeping with her costume theme of being casual. This is also a simplistic CD cover but lighting effects have been added here as Imbruglia's face is very bright and it shows the makeup off more, key lighting is probably used to help her face stand out from the dark skyline behind her.
CD Cover Two(Back)
This CD cover is extremely simple, there is no picture of the featured artists like the previous cover but instead has the contrasting colours of small white text on the black background, which is still quite effective as it draws the audiences attention to the fact the text is on a slanted angle makes it all the more interesting.
CD Cover Three

This CD Cover is very different form the other two we have looked at so far. But we have chosen Dido as she is another similar artist to Natasha Bedingfield. Here a lot of the background can be seen with Dido having a relaxed stance with a natural facial expression. Her outfit is casual as she is just wearing a denim jacket and a vest top. A black and white effect has been put on the picture and natural lighting looks like it's been used as there are shaded areas that go darker with the effect. The location is interesting as it's a regular walkway so like the other we have looked at; this CD cover is simplistic with the costume and location and doesn’t have anything extravagant. With the covers for the different artists being simplistic it helps to reflect their music as it laid back Pop music suitable for all audiences unlike other Pop musicians such as Lady Gaga who has loud costumes and videos which aren’t suitable for all audience.
CD Cover Three (Back)
This is an interesting cover as it keeps the effect of black and white from the front cover. I like how the long shot of the featured artist is really bright whilst the rest of the picture is much darker which helps her to stand out a lot more to the audience. The pose the featured artist is in looks less relaxed then the front cover and her outfit is different and seems less casual just like the back cover of the first artist. From this, it looks like a similar CD which has a casual picture of the artist on the front with a smarter pose and outfit on the back. The songs are also listed differently as in the other two cover they weren’t in a list, but having them like that here makes it more ordered and it works with the rest of the cover quite well.
Our Thoughts Front Cover
From looking at these CD covers is has given us a few ideas and has helped us to design our own. We like the use of natural lighting on the first CD cover and are going to use a shot like that for our cover we will most likely use an outdoor shot to help it look natural. We like the idea of the text being in the corner from the third CD cover but we like the idea of the name of artist and thaw album title being different colours like the first 3d cover. Cd cover three also gave us the idea of using background with the relaxed stance. So we have came up with the idea to use a screen grab of the outdoor narrative from our music video, which will have Lucy with a relaxed natural pose in a medium shot with a lot of the background behind her.
Our Thought Back Cover
We like the idea of using a picture and have been thinking of using the last shot in our video of Lucy walking. But instead of a medium shot we would like to use a long shot. We like the idea of how the song titles our listed in CD cover one so we will use something similar for our own and have the barcode and all other information in one of the corners.
